01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
About this place
Steaming aromas of spices and dashi broth greet diners right at the doorway. Perched on the 1th floor of an office building in Kotobuki, Taito Ward, Nomanka Kuwanka offers an unpretentious izakaya setting whether you are after a filling meal or lingering over drinks and small plates.
Hearty Hot Pots Steeped in Deep Broths
At dinnertime, the hot pot dishes take center stage with several distinctive bases. Options range from a dashi-infused curry hot pot and a red curry hot pot with 3 selectable spice levels to motsunabe (beef offal hot pot) offered in three styles: black soy sauce, white miso, and red spicy miso. Diners can customize their pot with extra pork slices, beef offal, assorted vegetables, or melted cheese, and finish by simmering Chinese noodles, Sanuki udon, or a cheesy risotto directly in the flavorful residual broth.
Casual Bites and a Thoughtfully Curated Drink List
Skewered pork-wrapped vegetables such as scallions, tomatoes, and shiso accompany other easy snacks like tebakara (crispy chicken wings) and boiled pork slices with ponzu. To pair, the drink menu includes maewari shochu—house-selected shochu pre-mixed with Mount Fuji spring water and rested in ceramic jugs—alongside house-infused lemon sours, regional fruit liqueurs, and various umeshu plum wines from around Japan.
From Weekday Lunches to Group Evenings
On weekday afternoons, lunch sets like pork shabu-shabu soup curry and classic Japanese curry rice draw nearby workers looking for a fast, substantial midday bite. With counter and table seating, the shop comfortably accommodates solo lunchgoers as well as evening groups gathering around a steaming hot pot, with advance seat reservations welcomed.
